Eliza, April 22, 2020August 15, 2025

Herbal supplements are the perfect natural way to improve your body’s immune system. Many supplements, like vitamin C, are taken by hundreds of people every day. However, there are hundreds of supplements that people don’t know about. Things less common than fish oil – but more healthy and less fishy.

What Supplements Should Vegans Take? | Best Vegan B12 Supplement ...

Cue Astaxanthin for Athletes

Also known as “nature’s strongest antioxidant.” This carotenoid is related to what a common supplement, beta-carotene. Astaxanthin is easy to find in sea creatures, fish, and some microalgae. Scientists have noted this mineral is responsible for aiding in muscle function and endurance. In addition, it can help reduce the muscle and bone stress athletes must endure training.

However, Cue astaxanthin can be used by more than the athletically inclined. It helps improve eye health, skin moisture, and plaque buildup in the arteries.

Elderberry for a Sickness Cure

If you’ve done your supplement research, then you’ll know that elderberry is known for helping boost your immune system and heal wounds. It has naturally strong antiviral properties that can help those suffering from things like the common cold. Also, it has traditionally been used to help with the healing process of wounds. Finally, those with severe respiratory problems use elderberry to open airways and relieve congestion.

Turmeric for Inflammation

Good for more than dying your shirts yellow – turmeric root is often found in powder form and added to many Indian meals. It’s a strong antioxidant. This means it can help rebuild cells and help people with inflammation. For people with arthritis, relief can be found from swelling, stiffness, and pain.

That said, you don’t have to like tikka masala to gain the benefits from turmeric. Try adding it to teas and tinctures as well as steaks or other meals. Just keep in mind, it will turn what you eat yellow!

Four: Milk Thistle

Following that, turmeric is another anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Depending on who you are, you might know milk thistle as something horses can’t have, something which’s roots can be steeped, or a spiky weed with a purple “flower.”

This poisonous purple flower is actually good for you. In fact, those with arthritis and diabetes can find a lot of release by consuming milk thistle regularly. Some with type II diabetes can even start producing more insulin naturally!

Lastly, milk thistle has the ability to improve the production of the liver in addition to helping with cirrhosis, jaundice, and hepatitis. If you frequently drink alcohol, milk thistle can help ensure your liver stays up to the task you’ve given it.

Five: L-Carnitine

Last but not least, L-Carnitine is often found in red meat. This makes it an almost required supplement for many vegans and vegetarians. In addition to restrictive diets, those that age will produce less naturally, requiring more to be ingested. When taken, it helps with circulation and heart health. Reduce your risk of stroke now.
